All Stock traders are not Stock Brokers and many people across the world can call themselves stock traders or part-time stock traders, despite having another profession in parallel with their regular trading activities in the financial markets When using a stock broker for financial guidance, one must be made aware that they do get paid on a commission, based on the stock/mutual fund they sell. Thus a conflict of interest arises concerning a stock broker who offers his/her service as a financial planner, because their revenue is generated as a direct result of your investment in the stock/mutual fund that they broker to you. In addition to actually trading stocks for their clients, stock brokers may also offer advice to their clients on which stocks, mutual funds, etc. to buy. Low cost brokers execute orders only a few times a day by aggregating orders from a large number of small investors into one or more block trades which are made at certain specific times during the day. Such block trades are also sometimes referred to as window trades. Since the spread of the Internet banking, it is usual to use an Internet connection to manage one’s own financial portfolios, including ordering the sell/buying orders, and define buying/selling prices. However you may still want to use a broker for the advice he or she may offer. Similar roles include investment advisor, financial advisor, and many others. A stockbroker may or may not be also an investment advisor. Similarly, an investment advisor may or may not be a stockbroker. A boiler room promotes thinly traded stocks via telephone calls to brokerage clients or spam email. The boiler room usually holds a large position in the stock and plans to dump it on brokerage clients at a high price. It is necessary to be wary of such firms and deal only through registered stock brokers. A retail broker is a brokerage firm that caters to the average investor or, in other words, the retail sector of investors - as opposed to the institutional sector of investors. Both discount and full-service firms are retail brokers. The majority of brokers who advertise on TV are retail brokers. Window trades help lower costs by matching buy and sell orders within the firms order book Low cost brokers also provide real-time trades but these are usually (but not necessarily) charged a higher commission . Using a stock broker for active management of a Portfolio may be unnecessary however, many prefer to use and pay for the services of a broker because they feel more comfortable making decisions about their finances with the interactive guidance of a licensed professional.
